Nothing could have prepared the Catesby clan for the unexpected passing of the family patriarch. On the day of his death, in the blink of an eye, the lives of one woman and her six grown children changed irrevocably.

The matriarch, Countess Margaret Lilias Catesby, was now a dowager countess; her strength and maternal duty, the sole driving force pushing her through the grief.
Each one of the six Catesby children is now left to carry on their father’s legacy. Eldest son Francis has barely a day to cope with his father’s death before the title of Lord Catesby is thrust upon him. With Francis assuming ownership of the estate and his five siblings left to sort out the pieces, each must now find a way to navigate the world without their dear father’s guidance.

Will mystery, deceit, heartache, the rules of society, and dramatic adventure stand in their way?

Will siblings Francis, Emily, Helena, Sophia, and the twins, Charles and Henry, be able to move forward into society and proudly carry on the Catesby name?
There is only one way to find out…

I know what I want, and it’s pretty simple—a husband.

Maybe I sound a tiny bit like a desperate wannabe-housewife, but I like to think of myself as goal-oriented about this situation. Because, unfortunately, I can’t do any of the other things on my five-year plan until I’ve checked that one off.

Thankfully, I have great friends who convince me that I don’t need a man to do all the things on my list. At their encouragement, I’m jumping into the fun parts of planning a wedding—tasting cake samples, trying on beautiful dresses, and taking dance lessons.

I expect it to be a fun distraction to keep me sane while I continue my hunt for a husband. What I don’t expect is for my coworker Daniel to volunteer when I need a partner for some of these activities, or for people to continuously mistake him for my fiancé.

Or how much I start to like him as I get to know him better.

Has the perfect guy for me been sitting three feet away this whole time? And have I realized this too late since he’s already interested in someone else? If I wasn’t about to have a breakdown before, I might be now…

Two cute kids, a cranky goalie, and a gingerbread house. What have I gotten myself into?

Emma: Joey and me? Let’s just say we have history. And no, it’s not the cute kind. We orbit in the same sphere of friends, so avoiding him is like trying to dodge a Zamboni in a hallway. At best we’re frenemies, but nothing more. When Joey’s sweet nephew asks me to help build a gingerbread house for a contest at his school, I’m all in. Baking for a competition? Who can resist? Hopefully his handsome uncle and I can set aside our differences for the sake of the contest.

Joey: I thought I would skate through my senior year, play for the Golden Stars, and get drafted into the NHL. But when I get to know the beautiful baker better, I realize there’s more to life than hockey. Will she ever see me as more than a thorn in her side, or am I stuck in the frenemy zone like a goalie with no stick?

There’s a fine line between love and hate. Will Emma and Joey skate over that line?
